My Playstation 2 dead

My ps 2 is dead.  I just head that PS3 can't play PS2 games and it's US$ 500+ :o So how much for new ps2 in Thai (in mall and street).  How about the modify one how much?  How long is normal life for it.  Oh another option should I bring this one back to fix?  It's the old PS2 (big one not the slim line)

ผมชอบแต่เกม Puzzle ปัจจุบันยังใช้ Playstation 1 อยู่เลยครับ เล่นแต่เกมเก่าๆ อิอิ

PS3 เล่นเกม PS2 ได้ครับ แต่ว่าช่วงแรกก็ต้องเล่นแผ่นแท้เท่านั้นนะครับ

May be not US PS3, I read from the playstation magazine.  It said PS2 game and controler are not compatible.  :-[
